Greenspan's Body Count: Bank Julius Baer-ied alex widmer

Alex Widmer, CEO of the Swiss Bank Julius Baer, has reportedly just offed himself:

Alex Widmer, the chief executive of Bank Julius Baer and a well respected figure in Swiss private banking, has died unexpectedly at the age of 52, the bank said.

A source told Reuters he had been informed by close friends of Widmer's family that the banker had committed suicide.

Swiss news website 20Minuten cited two unnamed independent sources as saying it was a case of suicide.

Props to Widmer for doing the honorable thing. I hope Mozilo, Fuld, Greenspan, and the rest of them will do the same. Chalk another one up for Greenspan's Body Count.

Goldman's revenge

No, not Goldman Suchs. Fred Goldman, father of the murdered Ron Goldman. When O.J. Simpson was acquitted of the murder in 1995, Goldman vowed to haunt Simpson for the rest of his life.

Today's lengthy prison sentence is obviously welcome news for Goldman, but even more so because Goldman helped bring it about. Goldman's 1997 civil judgment against Simpson caused Simpson to try all sorts of wacky schemes to hide assets from the courts. One of these schemes was to park his sports memorabilia with a bunch of shifty characters. Well, a dispute arose among the shifty characters, Simpson turned to armed robbery to resolve the dispute, the People of Nevada did not approve, and there you have how Fred Goldman got his justice.

What we've got here is... failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach. So you get what we had here last week, which is the way he wants it... well, he gets it. I don't like it any more than you men.

Prozac Nation

I thought the film Prozac Nation might be an interesting documentary on the over-prescription of psychiatric drugs, or at least an interesting indie flick.

It's not. It's an hour and a half of some spoiled Harvard chick with a Rolling Stone contract whining about how bad her life is. It draws you in with a full frontal Christina Ricci in the first five minutes, but it's all downhill from there.

The moon landing, Iraq, the New Deal...

... all trivial compared to the amount of money we just blew to bail out Wall Street.

Virus warning -- RETRACTED

There is a malicious virus today called Actns/Swif.T affecting YouTube videos. It hit the Barackrolling video that was embedded on this site. I have removed the video, but if you viewed the blog earlier today, you may have seen a pop-up window that told you to install some "anti-virus" software. I hope no one installed it. If you did, get thee to a real anti-virus site.

And I would avoid YouTube for a while until they fix their security.
