Sprouts Farmers Market salutes the Federal Reserve

Gas: up 1729%, or 3.3% annualized.
Cars: up 1936%, or 4.9% annualized.
Disneyland: up 22,757%, or 10% annualized.
Milk: up 292%, or 2.6% annualized.
Stamps: up 463%, or 4.2% annualized.

Note that almost all of this inflation was before the era of Obama trillion-dollar deficits and Zimbabwe Ben monetization of same. That is, the forward inflation could be a lot higher than the past inflation we see here.

You're still keeping a portion of your long-term savings in cash or bonds? Why?

Because the median income of the average family in 1960 was $5,600 - or $200 (4% increase) higher than the median family income of 1959. When the "wage bubble" bursts (for everyone including "paid-far-more-than-they-are-worth-boomers") you are going to hear the "pop heard 'round the world". Most of the assholes collecting giant paychecks and bonuses will be easilly replaced by educated, energetic, younger employees who will bust their ass for far less money. When they decide to quit with the drum circles and bullshit distractions, they are going to get serious about growing a work ethic and making some money. Pussy will motivate them them... they are going to get tired of rubbing one out themselves and want a girl to do it for them.... on the other side of the coin, the more aggressive chicks are going to want a docile house boy around to do their bidding but they know they are going to have to make a nice check to afford it. Just a matter of time. tick tick tick tick tick tick tick

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!

"...right, you mean Indians."

Whatever it takes.... it's coming. The demographics god demands it and more than a few Boomers are going to be thrown into the volcano.

Problem is Bong that most if not ALL youth lack any kind of wisdom, expertise is anything other than technology. Fuck, most cant figure out how to plug in the hybred. Your generation needs to grow a set and actually create stuff with material other than electrons and pixels.

Your humble boomer 1959.

Stamps are 45 cents now? Crazy.

As for kids taking my job, good luck with that. Seeing what my daughter's public high school teaches, unless they're coming out of the Catholic school system, I don't have to worry.

I would imagine buggy whip makers said the same thing about a young Henry Ford.

"ALL" is a very strong word.

1959 huh? Good God, do the world a favor and return to organic matter. There is an urn these days that you can be planted in and come back in another life as a tree.

I hear the distant whistle of someone walking across the grave yard under a full moon....

p.s. 1963 - the tail end of a generation that really and truly believes that it is all that AND a side of fries. And, thanks for the concern but I'm pretty sure my "set" works just fine.

Stamps are actually 46 cents now.

But nobody uses them.

Old folks always fear and resent young folks. Heck, I'm 34 and I already fear and resent the 24 crowd.

Make no mistake though, geezers: while you're grumbing and being wise, young people are doing everything you did, but better, and doing new things you never dreamed of.

I don't fear or resent the young.

They've got $100,000 of debt for a Greivance Studies degree and they're living in their parents' basement.

"The reasons for U.S. supremacy are clear: For one, it spends the most money on education, disbursing $980 billion annually, or twice as much as China and five times as much as India. It is also ****the most *****engineer-intensive country, with 981 engineering degrees per million citizens, compared with 553 for China and 197 for India*****. - WSJ September, 2012

"The World Economic Forum estimates that 81% of U.S. engineering graduates are immediately "employable," while only 25% of Indian graduates and 10% of Chinese graduates are equally well prepared. "Chinese students can swarm a problem," a dean at a major Chinese university told us. "But when it comes to original thought and invention, we stumble. We are trying hard to make that up. We are trying to make technical education the grounding from which we solve problems."

Not all of the young today are taking basket weaving 101.

I used to date this brainy hot Russian chick who went from being an RN to being a lawyer but she really struggled to make ends meet after passing the Bar. She (and others from her SLU graduating class) blamed the number of lawyers being churned out. Too many given the total population. She went back to being an RN because the money was better. Used to? What's the new model?

Older model (more my own age) but with super, super low miles... I think her ass is hotter than the Russian's as it has never seen the inside of an obstetrician's office.

Happy Super Tuesday!
