Greenspan's Body Count: Mark Schons, Jennifer Schons, Tynan Schons, Camden Schons

Haven't I told you people? If Greenspan's economic crash drives you to this point, go ahead and off yourself, but don't hurt the kids!

Greenspan's latest victims are in the Detroit suburb of Novi, MI.
A man who owned a now-defunct Howell-area party-supply store killed his 38-year-old wife and two children Friday at their home in Novi before taking his own life in a parking lot in Lyon Township, authorities said.

A motive is unknown — no suicide note has been found — but Mark and Jennifer Schons were deep in debt, had filed for bankruptcy in December and were considering a divorce, although they continued to live together with their children in their home on Applebrooke Drive in rural southern Novi, police said.

More:
The couple had filed for bankruptcy December 23, and had run up more than $200,000 in debt in recent years, mostly from credit cards, according to federal court records. A meeting with creditors was scheduled for next Wednesday.

More:
Investigators are pursuing several motives, including that the couple, who lived in a 2,500-square-foot, two-story brick home on an acre lot with an in-ground pool, apparently were having financial difficulties.

Molloy said the couple were considering divorce.

Their party supply store, Party Central on East Grand River in Howell, recently failed. They filed bankruptcy in December, claiming $581,000 in debt. Besides their home mortgage, most of the debt was from credit cards, authorities said. The Schons' store was recently sued by the business's landlord in 53rd District Court. Their house, bought in 2008 for $420,000, was listed Friday for sale on a real estate website for $574,900.

That house would appear to be 50880 Applebrooke Drive. They were trying to sell it for 37% more than they paid for it two years ago.

Greenspan's Body Count stands at 151.

That is just so incredibly sad, I could barely make myself read the whole article. Those little boys may have had a chance but their dad somehow decided they didn't and he took them down with him. We are having a very difficult time financially right now, but doing something like that is not even close to being on my mind. I have 3 children aged 13 8 and 2 and just cannot imagine what those little boys must have gone through, let alone the wife. But I fear we are just going to see more stories like this :(

We, Ourselves, see this as nothing more than a man who was greedy and selfish committing the ultimate actions of greed and selfsihness. In conservative terms he was a welfare king his welfare being a loan on a home he actually couldn't afford credit cards he should never accepted to buy things he did not need. To blame Greenspan for this man's death and his stabbing murder of his wife and the suffocation of his sons is akin to saying that Sarah Palin was responsible for the actions of the man who shot Gabrielle Giffords.

Your reasoning is flawed because like so many of your political bent you subscribe to the "No true Sctosman" thoery of ideological responsibility.

Pain,

I'm truly sorry for your loss.

Greenspan's Body Count does not mean to absolve the killers of responsibility for their acts.

GBC intends to put a human face on the economic suffering caused by corrupt and incompetent policy-makers, in hopes that we never again allow such people to destroy our economy.

While murder and suicide are ultimately the choice of the murderer or self-murderer, the number of cases like this rise during times of economic hardship. And Alan Greenspan caused that economic hardship. Greenspan's bubble was directly responsible for the Home ATM phenomenon that left so many people hopelessly indebted. The fact that people willingly participated due to greed or stupidity does not absolve Greenspan of his responsibility for destroying the economy.

Do your homework. It wasn't Greenspan that foisted 'everybody gets a home they can't afford' - that was Mr. Bill and his ilk, saying it's a 'right' to have a home. Next round already heard: it's a right to have high-speed cable in that home. Give me a freekin break. Work like the rest of us and afford it and you won't kill people when it goes away -- you'll just work harder next time.

It wasn't Greenspan that made this guy a weakling. However, it ws Mr. Bill and his ilk that said it's a 'right' to own a home - the American Dream - and they forced loans to be made to people who weren't capable or qualified. Do your homework. Then point that fickle finger in the right direction.

"...apparently were in financial difficulties."

Apparently? Is there some doubt?

Anonymous,

I hate Fannie and Freddie and the FHA and all the Democrats who supported them too, but this is not a partisan issue.

There is plenty of blame to go around, and the Dirty Fed is at the top of the list by either deliberately or incompetently creating the biggest asset bubble in the history of the world with obscenely easy money.
