14 Reasons Rick Perry would be a really bad President
We all wanted a knight to ride in and save us from a weak GOP field. But Rick Perry ain't it. Among the declared candidates, my Tea Party friends are enthusiastic only about Ron Paul and Gary Johnson, and they are still not getting their due in the media.

Add to those the fact that Perry abandoned the otherwise widely supported anti-TSA groping bill and he turned all anti-states rights when New York legalized gay marriage.
Another common Tea Party member issue is his conservative Democrat roots. He won elections as a Democrat and served as Al Gore's 1988 Texas Campaign Chairman. Although I think you correctly looked past this.
Poltifact points out that it was precisely this work with Al Gore that changed Perry into a Republican, although other reports say it was purely for political reasons.
"Going through that (Gore experience) was part of what started me through the process of changing parties in 1989," Perry said. "I came to my senses."
