Of course they're upset. There are various degrees of mental deficiencies, none more severe than liberalism.
Calling a liberal retarded is offensive to retarded people.
Agreed it is demeaning to lump liberals with the mentally challenged.
Liberals have much more bigger limitations, starting with a lack of morality.
