Ron Paul wins CPAC straw poll

This means at least some Republicans are starting to get the message: It's the Big Government, Stupid.

Fox News:
Ron Paul has ended Mitt Romney's three-year run as conservatives' favorite for president, taking 31 percent of the vote in the Conservative Political Action Conference's annual straw poll.

Paul, a Republican congressman from Texas known for his libertarian views, ran for president in 2008 but was never a serious contender for the GOP nomination.

Ron Paul will never be a serious contender for the GOP nomination. But his son Rand might be sooner than you expect.

UPDATE: Issue polls confirm gay marriage not at all important to CPAC attendees. It's gonna be a bright, bright, sunshiney day!

Who knows if Rand will win though.

I disagree on Paul. Paul couldn't even get 1% in the Iowa straw poll in 2007 errr didn't even register on it's scale.

By the actual vote he was at 13% if I recall.

He needs to get organized earlier for Iowa in 2012. If his campaign is just hitting its highmark by New Hampshire and they're already excluding him from debates, then it will be hard to win.

But if he's strong from the outset, he has a better chance.

qs,

He's getting pretty old. If he were 20 years younger I'd say he had a shot.

Fortunately, we have a Paul who's 20-something years younger, equally libertarian, and possibly smoother with mainstream voters.

There is a new poll coming on Tuesday in KY. I posted it on poli.

The company doing it is obscure though.

I don't think an outright libertarian candidate can ever win. The public, like it or not, wants a certain amount of government. But I think that the Republicans adopting fiscal libertarians principles (which consequently correspond to liberty in general) is the way to go.

Happy Super Tuesday!
